Elevating Vulva Voices
Educate, Empower, Embody
Representation is powerful. It is key to our liberation and empowerment in who we are as individuals. When we can read stories that affirm our experience, or see photographs that help us feel seen and empowered it is life changing.
I am committed to elevating vulva voices through storytelling and story sharing. Every person I photograph is invited to submit a story. When thinking about my art gallery, I found it really important for me to bring in an element to fight against the roots of rape culture. If you are born with a vulva, your body is hyper-sexualized. For millennia, womxn have been seen and treated as just bodies, as sexual accessories for cis men. Because of that, when society sees any part of a womxn presenting body it becomes sexualized and therefore puts that person at risk. I hope to offer an experience where all genders will be able to learn about vulva diversity while also being confronted with a story that brings humxnness front of mind. A moment to remind every person who is experiencing the gallery that we are more than just bodies, we have a story to tell and a story to continue unfolding. We deserve respect, safety and honor.

Share your Vulva Voice:
We all have a story to share about our vulva; something we were taught or weren’t, an insecurity or overcoming, something we experienced; painful or celebratory. Maybe a trauma, reclamation, or transition. Your story can change lives, and this project has space for it. Your story can be submitted anonymously.
Vulva Voices - Reflection by @emmaagodfrey
For the first time in a long time, instead of fighting and blaming my body for its “brokenness” and “abnormalities”, I listened.
